UP govt has established the rule of law: Guv

The Uttar Pradesh government has established the rule of law in the state to create an atmosphere sans crime and fear, Governor Ram Naik said today.
He said the government has initiated stringent action against criminals and land mafias.
To prevent eveteasing and provide a safe atmosphere for women, the state government has constituted anti-Romeo squads, he said, adding that "obscene call cell" has also been set up to tame those who used to send indecent messages to girls or make calls.
"The rule of law has been established in the state to create an atmosphere of sans crime and fear. Action is being initiated against criminal and mafia elements due to which there is improvement in law and order," Naik said in his address to the joint sitting of the state legislature on the opening day of the budget session.

He said the anti-land mafia task force has so far removed encroachments on 53,584 hectare land and 1,426 land mafias have been identified, and stern action is being taken against them.
"The Uttar Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Bill (UPCOCB) is also under consideration of the state legislature and after its implementation there will be effective check on those involved in organised crime," he said.

On the agricultural front, he said the state government has purchased wheat from 8,00,646 farmers and they have been paid Rs 6,011 crore.
Naik said the state government has fixed a target of purchasing 50 lakh metric tonne of paddy of which 39.8 metric tonne have been purchased at Rs 6,164 crore.

For providing irrigation facilities, the governor said Agriculture Irrigation Fund with Rs 20,000 will be established and for arid Bundelkhand, separate provisions will be made under this fund.
In his nearly 90-minute address, Naik spoke about the forthcoming Investors' Summit here. He said it would help in creating favourable atmosphere for investments.
The governor highlighted policies initiated by the BJP government during its one year in office, particularly in agriculture, education, health, power and industrial sector, but his speech was drowned by the ruckus kicked up by the Opposition.
