Uttar Pradesh government will construct a memorial for socialist leaders including former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar, which will have a vast collection of literature, audio-visual and other materials related to them.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today announced the construction of the memorial while releasing a book titled "Jan Nayak Chandrashekhar", on Chandrashekhar's death anniversary.
"A memorial will be constructed in Lucknow, in memory of socialist leaders like Chandrashekhar, that will have a vast collection of literature, audio, video and other materials related to them," Yadav said.
"In the past, Samajwadi Party (SP) had constructed memorials like Lohia Park and Janeshwar Mishra Park in the memory of socialist leaders," Yadav said, adding the new memorial would also serve as an inspiration for our future generations, who can learn from their struggles.
Paying rich tributes to the former prime minister, Yadav said that Chandrashekhar had a dynamic personality and he used to put forth his views on all issues, including politics, economy and foreign policy, in a logical and fearless manner.
"When he used to speak in Lok Sabha all members, whether from treasury or opposition bench used to listen to him intently," he said.
Referring to his contribution, the chief minister said that his contribution in propagating socialist principles would be remembered forever.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said that Chandrashekhar wanted to fulfil the expectations of the downtrodden sections of the society and expressed satisfaction that SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was taking the socialist ideology of the late leader forward.
Chandrashekhar served as the 9th Prime Minister of India for a brief period, from November 10, 1990 to June 21, 1991.
