UP Police's latest Twitter initiative a big hit

A fortnight after it launched the twitter-based grievance redressal service, Uttar Pradesh police said today that it has so far addressed 1,280 complaints.
After getting tremendous response from people on the micro-blogging platform, UP police had on September 8 became the first state in the country to use Twitter to redress grievances of people.
"After the launch of Twitter service of police in the state we have got 1,710 actionable tweets between September 11 to September 19. Of them action was taken in 1,280 tweets while 340 are in precession," Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad revealed.
The service was launched by DGP Javeed Ahmad and Twitter Vice President Rishi Jaitley and CEO Rahil Khurshid.
UP is the first state in the country, which is using Twitter service at all its police stations to redress grievances of people in order to have a better connect with them.
These initiatives were previously taken by Centre mainly by the ministries like External Affairs, Railways and Commerce.
The whole process is based on twitter's customer relation management platform in which a software complaints are forwarded to the concerned districts with a particular code that is generated for the complaint.
Through these codes, complaints are tracked, ASP Rahul Srivastav said, adding that Twitter handle of @Uppolice has 54.3 k followers, which is growing with each passing day.
