"If any incident of insensitive behaviour by policemen is detected in future it will not be ignored and stern action will be taken against the concerned personnel and supervising officer," the DGP said in his first circular after appointment.
The DGP also said that action like detaining family members of a criminal in a bid to create pressure to arrest him "should not be taken".
Ahmed said that the behaviour of police towards common people should be sensitive and hard towards anti-social, goons and professional criminals.
