The deal was announced today in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. No financial terms were released, though a statement about the deal said the partnership would include educational opportunities and improving standards in patient care.
The University of Pennsylvania Health System is based in Philadelphia and includes the university's medical school and other local hospitals.
VPS Healthcare is a system of 14 hospitals in the Middle East, Europe, the United Kingdom and India employing 7,500 people.
