In a bid to introduce value-based learning for children of all age groups in government schools, Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Kiran Walia today released books on value education to be incorporated in the school curriculum.
The minister informed that the state government felt a need for enlightening children about the value system which is gradually degrading.
Though our country has a rich cultural heritage, present education system has not been able to do justice to the overall development of a child, Walia said.
Education should not only include high academics but also should focus on proper personality development for which values we need imbibe values in them, she said.
Books on value education have been developed from Class-I to Class-VIII by a team of experienced academicians which contain stories associated with national, cultural and social heritage with the help of colourful stories, poems and activities to make learning a joyful experience and at the same time making them responsive to the values aspect in them.
In addition, a set of 18 activity based cards on 'Gender Sensitization and Awareness' have also been developed for Classes-I to XII about gender equality among students.
The Department is introducing value based content from Classes I-XII with an aim to inculcate such values from early stages of learning.
These books will be distributed free of cost amongst the students, she said.
