A meeting to formally introduce the Congress candidate to party workers ahead of poll campaign here was marred by a verbal clash between supporters of Union ministers G K Vasan and P Chidambaram.
The party workers nearly came to blows.
Even as K Rani, Villupuram Parliamentary seat candidate began her address thanking all Congress leaders, including Vasan, a Chidambaram supporter wanted to know why she had "omitted" the FM's name.
Soon, other Chidambaram loyalists joined issue and sought to know why his photograph and name were "missing" in some propaganda material.
Mohammed Gulam Mohiuddin, President of Villupuram North District Congress Committee and a well-known Vasan loyalist told PTI that the issue was resolved smoothly.
"It is actually nothing. A non-issue was blown out of proportion by some," he said, adding even those who raised "certain objections" later cooperated and participated in the meeting.
Rani, former MP of Rasipuram, (now Namakkal after delimitation) downplayed the incident said all party workers are unitedly facing the polls and added the people reposed faith in their party.
Of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, Congress is yet to announce its candidate for south Chennai.
