For almost 18 months, Vizag Port Trust chairman M T Krishna Babu was in charge of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) in an interim arrangement.
Kumar is an IRSEE officer of 1993 batch, the KoPT statement added.
Before taking up his new role, Kumar was Chief Electrical Engineer in Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd and was looking after the World Bank-funded Mumbai Urban Transport Project.
Kumar held a meeting with the deputy chairmen and heads of departments of Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex at KoPT and encouraged them to accept the challenges and opportunities arising in the port and shipping world and also share the development initiatives and efforts taken by the KoPT.
