The students locked up the office of the proctor at 10 am and did not allow the officials including Officiating Registrar Amit Hazra to leave the office.
The students alleged that neither the physical education department nor the proctor's office was serious to allot them hostel rooms.
The gherao is on till writing of this copy at 11.30 pm.
Hazra said, "It is not possible to provide hostel rooms to all the applicants overnight. It takes time. Their demand is that we have to allot rooms right now within few minutes which is impossible."
The students did so to protest against some "objectionable" comments made by a teacher of the physics department about the students.
