Vodafone ties up with MP govt for JSY subsidy payment

Telecom major Vodafone today said it has tied up with the Madhya Pradesh government to facilitate mobile-based disbursement of financial assistance to women under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) of National Rural Health Mission.
"This initiative... Has been running in pilot stage in MP's Vidisha district for the last two months," the head of Vodafone's M-Pesa service, Suresh Sethi said here.
JSY is aimed at reducing the neo-natal and maternal deaths by promoting institutional delivery.
"Now, the beneficiaries with any active mobile number can directly receive payment of the subsidy by M-Pesa. Once the payment is made under JSY, the beneficiaries will be informed via SMS mentioning the amount of subsidy, the withdrawal code and procedure.

"They can then withdraw the subsidy amount by simply authorising the transaction with the withdrawal code at nearby Vodafone M-Pesa retail outlets," he added.
