Vyapam scam: CBI registers FIR against 587 people

In an FIR against the biggest number of people in Vyapam scam, CBI today registered its 16th case against 587 people in connection with alleged irregularities in the 2012 Pre-Medical Test Examination, besides starting an inquiry into mysterious death of one Vikas Singh.
CBI said the FIR has been registered against 587 persons including then Controller of Examination Pankaj Trive; the then Principal System Analyst Nitin Mahindra, the then Senior System Analyst Ajay Sen, the then Assistant Programmer CK Mishra all linked with Vyapam and the then OSD to former Minister, OP Shukla.
The agency has registered the case under IPC sections related to cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy among others besides provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, violations of Information Technology Act, MP Recognised Examination Act 1937.
The case was earlier being probed since 2013 by STF of Madhya Pradesh Police, Bhopal.
The case has been registered on the allegations of manipulation in allotment of roll numbers to facilitate cheating by the candidates appearing in PMT Examination 2012 as well as on allegations of alteration in OMR sheets, CBI said.
The Preliminary Enquiry (PE) has been registered relating to death of Vikas Singh to enquire whether the death was related to alleged Vyapam cases or otherwise.
"He was an alleged accused in 3 FIRs registered by Madhya Pradesh Police in connection with Vyapam. He died on November 21, 2009...He was a student of Veterinary College, Mahu in Indore and was residing at Boys Hostel, Veterinary College, Rasalpura, Mahu, Dist- Indore where the incident took place," the CBI said.
The official said further process of taking over of remaining cases was under way.
The Supreme Court has directed the CBI to take over probe in all Vyapam related cases by August 24.
