Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said from the media reports he got the impression that Rajan was arrested as part of a deal of apprehending fugitive gang-lord and 1993 Mumbai serial blasts prime accused Dawood Ibrahim.
"If it is so, it is good. But then the government of India must come out clean whether they have struck a deal with him, would he be given some concession in the cases which were filed against him and whether his contacts and his people in the crime world would be used to achieve political ends," he told reporters here.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi said that action should be taken on the Vohra Committee report on nexus between politicians and criminals.
Trivedi wondered whether any political party is interested in implementing the N N Vohra Committee report on the controversial issue submitted to the government in 1993.
"Without hesitation I can say that the entire political system have been hijacked by the mafia and official machinery has become irrelevant," he said.
Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the Home Ministry will be in a better position to explain the present thinking of the government whether to make public the Vohra Committee report on nexus between politicians and mafia.
