West Bengal Human Rights Commission today took suo muto cognisance about the disapperance of a 23-year-old girl one year back and directed the CID and police to investigate the matter and submit the report within three weeks.
The victim's mother, Bibha Haldar had accused the police and CID of "indifference" in searching her daughter Tania Das, who according to her was trafficked by a local hooch trader of New Barrackpore.
Since last year, Haldar has been running from pillar to post and had visited police station and CID headquaters with a plea of bringing back her daughter. But according to the middle-aged woman, her pleas were always turned down.
"The commission has taken a suo- muto cognisance about the matter and had directed the DIG (CID) and Barrackpore commissionarate to investigate the matter and submit a report within three weeks," Sujay Haldar, joint secretary, state Human Rights Commission told PTI.
