Instead of hitting out at the ones calling for his head, NRAI president Raninder Singh today preferred to answer his critics by highlighting, among others, the achievements of its shooters at world stage and said it was solely focussed on next year's CWG and Asian Games.
Last Sunday, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) was barred from attending the General Body Meeting of the suspended Indian Olympic Association (IOA) due to a pending court case against the shooting body.
An unperturbed Raninder, though, said the federation has other important work to tend with major sporting events lined up next year.
"There are three major tournaments next year -- the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. Besides, the quota places for (2016 Rio) Olympics will open up and 34 of them will be up for grabs in the World Championships in Granada. So, we don't have the time to think about all this rubbish," Raninder told PTI.
The NRAI is embroiled in a legal battle with former Olympic silver-medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and had suffered a setback when the Delhi High Court declared the shooting body's April 6 elections this year as null and void.
"There were two separate petitions on this election issue and one single judge bench of the Delhi High Court had ruled in our favour and hence the matter has been referred to a division bench. Till the pendency of the appeal, we are the legal body," Raninder had said.
The NRAI chief then sought to list out the positives of the shooting fraternity under the present regime.
"Our shooters, especially the juniors, have been winning medals regularly. We have been awarded the best sport federation. Our budgetary allocation has gone up from Rs seven to Rs 20 crore. We are compliant with all sports code guidelines.
"We are recognised by the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry as well as the IOC. We are the first federation to have incorporated the age and tenure guidelines. And we were in favour of imposing ban of administrators who have been chargesheeted.
