This was after Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 5 for 33 to rout West Indies' first innings after lunch and bowl out the hosts for 225 runs.
"We think Kumar bowled well with the new ball. When he took that new ball it was the key because he took four quick wickets," Brathwaite said after the day's play.
India attacked in the last session of play thereafter, finishing the day at 157/3, setting themselves for a declaration early on fifth day.
Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma put on 85 runs quickly, even as the hosts deployed two spinners.
"It was not surprising because we were a couple of minutes behind on the over rate. That was one of the reasons. Unfortunately, we went for too many boundaries but still I think we have a job to do as a team tomorrow," said Brathwaite.
