Widow beaten up in Odisha village

A 48-year-old widow in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district was allegedly beaten up and forced to go half nude by local people, who accused her of having an illicit relationship with a man.
The alleged incident took place at Ambajoda village in Mayurbhanj district on April 11. The police arrested 12 persons, including 5 women, in connection with the incident.
The widow in her FIR expressed dismay at getting no help from villagers while she was being beaten up.
The arrested 12 villagers were produced before the Judicial Magistrate (first Class), Betanati today, Minati Biswal, the IIC of Betanati Police station, said.

The court sent all of them to jail after rejecting their bail pleas, Biswal said.
