Wildlife smuggler arrested in Rajasthan

A 45-year-old wildlife smuggler was arrested with lion paws and claws along with domestic and international currency and antique items in city's Manak Chowk area, police said today.

The accused, identified as Ajit Kumar Gokhru, a resident of Tonk district, was arrested from Gopal Ji Ka Rasta, where he had gone to sell lion claws and paws, fake silver coins, jewellery and antique items, Station House Officer Ram Bera said.

He said that the accused was produced before a local court from where he was sent on five-day police remand.

Acting on a tip-off, a search operation was launched recently and a team was constituted which caught hold of the accused, he said.

Seventy seven bundles of special series currency notes, antique play cards, 1,499 copper coins, 2,057 domestic and international currency coins, jewellery items and a jeep was recovered from the accused, the SHO added.
