The Centre today assured Uttar Pradesh that its highway projects will be taken up on a priority basis, including a proposed six-lane expressway envisaging investment to the tune of Rs 9,600 crore.
Chairing a review meeting to take stock of the progress of highway projects in Uttar Pradesh, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari assured UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya of all possible support to the state for expediting highway works, said an official.
Gadkari reviewed the progress on the proposed six-lane expressway project for Bundelkhand from Tiruwa to Jhansi via Agra-Lucknow Expressway, to be built at a cost of about Rs 9,600 crore, he said.
It has been proposed to build six lanes till Jhansi and later on four lanes via Trikoot to Allahabad.
The project had been given in-principle nod in July.
Besides, a proposal to construct a ring road for all major cities in UP, including Allahabad, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Kanpur, Moradabad and Meerut, was also discussed.
The state has submitted proposals for converting 109 roads into national highways, of which 10 have already been notified as national highways while in-principle approval has been given to 48. Fifty one highway stretches are in the process of being declared as NHs.
