Delhi government seeks to implement the odd-even scheme permanently only after augmenting public transport to a level so that people don't have to face problems while commuting.
"Government will implement odd-even scheme permanently only when public transport is upgraded," a senior government official said.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai said that government aims to add 4,000 new buses to the national capital's roads by the end of this year.
"As per the plan, 1,000 new cluster buses (orange colour) will start coming on roads in May and apart from this, one thousand DTC buses will come in August.
"We are also planning to introduce 1,000 mini buses besides one thousand premium buses to be plied for elite class to encourage them to leave their cars," Rai said.
The Transport Minister also said that Delhiites will be able to travel in metro trains, DTC buses and cluster buses through one 'Common Mobility Card'.
Delhi government is in the last stage of finalising the modalities of the project which will be launched in a phased manner.
"We are also preparing a plan to increase the number of trips of metro trains so that people won't have to face problems while using public transport," he said.
