"The wind that is blowing from Gujarat will ensure that there is no literature, no art, no view, no space for counter view. This is clearly reflected from what Justice Mehta has said. He has said many things pointwise.
"If a judge is saying this, there is a indeed a need to understand what this wind blowing from Gujarat is. This wind relates to that politician of Gujarat, who wants to tell that whatever has happened in Gujarat is due to him. And Justice Mehta has made it clear what all is happening in the state due to that person," party spokesperson Raj Babbar said.
A retired Gujarat High Court judge, Mehta, blasted the Modi government for calling him "biased" and "anti-government" while opposing his appointment.
"A Lokayukta unwanted by the government cannot get all the necessary and timely support from it," he said in a letter to Governor Kamla Beniwal who had appointed him, triggering a standoff with the Modi government.
Bypassing the state government, Beniwal had appointed Mehta as Lokayukta on August 25, 2011. This was followed by a legal battle which lasted almost two years as state government sought to overturn his appointment and contested it till the last remedy of a curative petition was rejected by the Supreme Court.
