Batting for early implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra today said without it, the country is divided and is prevented from becoming a common market.

"Without GST we effectively divide our own country and prevent it being a common market. We render ineffective our own secret weapon", Mahindra said on micro-blogging site twitter.

He further said: "(The) simplest way I know of understanding the significance of the GS Tax: In a fragile world, India's Brahmastra is its huge domestic market."

The Constitution Amendment Bill to roll out GST is stuck in the Rajya Sabha due to stiff opposition by the Congress and might be delayed further because of the tough stance taken by the main opposition party over the National Herald case issue.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said efforts to create hurdle will amount to damaging the country, while pitching for early passage of the GST Bill in the Upper House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier held meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to break the ice on the GST logjam and other pending work in Parliament.
