Police suspect that it could be a fall-out of her marriage which her family did not approve of.
The woman suffered knife injuries to her neck in the incident which took place on the outskirts of Ongole town.
A person called A Ramu and two others attacked the woman, who was studying for MCA, Ongole Taluk station house officer Vijay Chandra said.
She was admitted in a nearby hospital and her condition was said to be out of danger.
She had married a man from the same community eight months ago after falling in love with him, but her family was against the marriage, the officer said.
However, it was also alleged that there were some old disputes between the victim and her cousin's family, Chandra said, adding that exact reason for the attack will be established only after the investigation.
An attempt to murder case under IPC has been lodged. Special teams have been formed to nab the three accused who are absconding.
