With an aim to increase the participation of women cops in policing system, Ghaziabad police has decided to give them a special training to maintain law and order in the district.
Ghaziabad SSP Sacchi Ghildiyal, the first woman SSP of the district, said that the skills of women cops will be enhanced by engaging them in investigations of important cases of murders, robbery, raid and inspections of crime scenes.
"We want women cops to work like men cops, who presently investigate all types of cases and also go to the crime scene and raid hide outs of criminals. For this, we will train them by engaging them with teams of men cops investigating all types of cases," Ghildiyal, a 2002 batch IPS officer, told PTI.
At present, there are around 427 women cops, who are mostly engaged with traffic department and administrative works, but are not allowed to be a part of investigations of murders, robbery, dacoity and other crimes.
Of 427 woman cops, there are 13 sub-inspectors, 2 head-constables and 412 sub-inspectors.
"When a police raid is conducted in the dens of criminals, women cops are not part. But now, women cops will also be involved in such police raid party," Gadhiyal said.
Ghildiyal is known for her bravery while she was posted at Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh, where she reportedly caught many notorious gangs of dacoits.
She was appointed as Ghaziabad SSP after the Election Commission transferred Dharmendra Singh from the post.
She also added that women constables will also be sent to the accident spot and crime scenes to handle the situations and investigate the matter on their own.
Although some women cops are posted in a few PCR vans, they are not allowed to play main roles when PCR van played vital role like chasing criminals.
"We welcome the initiative of Ghaziabad's SSP to involve women cops in the important investigations of all types of crimes. The SSP's step will surely encourage women cops," said Kavita, a manager with Noida-based software company and a resident of Indirapuram.
