Woman killed as bus rams her on footpath

A middle-aged woman died this morning when a private bus lost control and rammed her on the footpath, the police said.
"The accident happened at around 8.50 AM when a private bus hit a 50-year-old lady on the footpath of the Ultadanga Main Road under Manicktala Police Station," a senior police officer said.
The lady was rushed to the Medical College and Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival, he said adding the driver was taken into custody.
In another incident in the afternoon, a 45-year-old man was badly injured when he fell on the road at the crossing of College Street and Eden Hospital Road, the police said.

"Subhash Hazra, a footpath dweller, reportedly in an inebriated condition, fell down. He was rescued by local people and is now undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital," they said.
