Hundreds of women belonging to various fishing hamlets in Nagapattinam district today prayed to the sea god for protecting fishermen from natural calamities and to enhance marine wealth.
The women, clad in yellow sarees, took out a procession from the Akkaraipettai Muthumariamman temple and performed various poojas at Akkaraipettai seashore for the 'Samudra Rajan' (sea god).
They poured milk, sandal paste, rose water and flowers in the water as part of their poojas.
