Congress will not tolerate any attempt to "dilute" programmes initiated by the previous UPA dispensation under it, senior party leader Ahmed Patel said in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for cooperation in the Budget session of Parliament beginning tomorrow.
"Congress Parliamentary Board will decide on whether to support BJP during the Budget session or not. We will hold a meeting and think about it. However, Congress will not tolerate any attempt to dilute policies and programmes introduced by previous UPA government," said Patel who is the political secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
He was here today to unveil a bronze statue of Indulal Yagnik alias Indu Chacha who had led the 'Maha Gujarat' movement for separate Gujarat during late 1950.
Patel was responding to a query on the plea made by Modi at a meeting of political parties in Delhi for ensuring smooth functioning of Parliament.
The senior Congress leader also said Congress was extending its support to veteran social activist Anna Hazare's movement against the new Land Acquisition bill.
"Our stand is clear about the new Land Acquisition Bill. Congress will not tolerate any change in the old Act introduced by the UPA government in 2013. We welcome Anna Hazare's movement. Congress will support him as long as he fights for the cause of farmers," said Patel.
Hazare (77), along with farmers' bodies, will hold a two-day protest against the ordinance at Jantar Mantar starting tomorrow when the Budget Session of Parliament will commence.
