Gnani, who unsuccessfully contested the April 24 byelection to Alandur assembly constituency in the city as an AAP nominee, said he resigned from the party on Thursday in view of both his and the party's "bad health now."
"I have resigned from being a member of the Aam Aadmi Party since both my health and the party's health are in bad shape. I will continue to write and speak in support of the party as I used to do even before joining the party," he wrote in his Facebook page.
His decision to join or quit the party had nothing to do with any desire for posts, he added.
Later, in a release, he said he "regretted" that he "lacked the health and energy to actively work to contribute towards restructuring the party."
Responding to Gnani's resignation, the party's state unit said that it was 'voluntary'.
"His quiting is voluntary. We are trying to rebuild the party to take it forward," AAP state unit spokesperson M Lenin said when asked about the author's resignation where he had also cited the party's 'bad health.
