They criticised comments made leaders of BJP and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha charging Singh of involvement in corruption in coal block allocation and of favouring illegal immigration into Assam.

"BJP is trying to divide the people in the name of religion and ethnicity. We will not allow this. Parties like BJP have no place in our society," Assam YC president and MLA Pijush Hazarika said.

He accused BJP and BJYM of spreading rumours for the sake of gaining political mileage.

"The youngsters of the country will support the development agenda of the Prime Minister. BJP should remember what it did during the NDA regime," senior YC leader and MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed said.

G S Road, Guwahati's main thoroughfare, was jammed for over an hour this afternoon, as activists of YC and NSUI took to the streets.
