The searing heat today pushed the power demand in the city to over 5,200 mega watt, the highest of the year.
"The maximum power demand was recorded at 5214 MW in the city today, breaching yesterday's record demand of 5,055 MW," a power department official said.
The rise in power demand triggered outages in many areas of city for up to three hours.
Last year, maximum power demand had gone beyond 5,600 MW. The demand is likely to break last year's record.
The maximum temperature in the city today was recorded at 45 degree Celsius.
