Youth breaks world record for applying henna

A 24-year-old youth succeeded in applying henna (mehndi) on 420 hands in 27 hours, breaking the existing world record.
Deeshit Salat applied henna on 234 people from Saturday morning at 8 am until 11 am today, beating current world record holder Dipti Desai of Ahmedabad, who had applied henna on 140 hands (70 people) in 24 hours and 45 minutes, in 2011.
Talking to PTI after creating the world record today, Salat said, "It was my dream to break the existing world record in a girl's name and I am excited about it. If girls can do wonders in fields monopolised by men, then why can't a man break the monopoly of women in applying henna on women's hands," Salat said.

Young women had queued up at Kalyan Prasad Hall near Mandi gate of the walled city area from 7.30 am on Saturday to get their hands decorated with the henna due to the religious occasion of Gauri vrat.
"Continuous video recording of the event started at 8 am on Saturday as required for registration in the Guinness Book of World Records and it continued till 11 am on Sunday, as per instructions from the Guinness Book of World Records," Salat said.
He prepared the paste using three kgs of henna powder, one litre nilgiri oil, 200 grams of clove oil, two litres of water and 500 gram of lemon juice to apply henna on 420 hands in the Indo-Arabic style.

Salat, who is a diploma holder in sculpture from the Vallabh Vidyanagar-based Santram Ipcowala Fine Arts College, said, "I did it continuously for 27 hours without taking any break, consuming juice and fruits during this period.
