leaning out of a speeding car's window died after he accidentally hit a tree, police said here today.
The deceased has been identified as Ashu, a resident of Baljeet Nagar. He died in the mishap last night, they said.
"The incident took place at around midnight when Ashu along with his three friends was returning home after a party. The victim, who was drunk, was leaning out of the car's window when he hit a roadside tree. He suffered grievous injuries in his head and hand and died on the spot," a police official said.
"The body was spotted by a PCR van early morning near Jhandewalan Metro Station. As several injury marks were found on his head and hands, they first thought he was murdered and dumped in the car," the official said.
Two of his friends, Firoz and Brijesh Pandey, have been detained, while Shiv Shankar, who was driving the car, is still at large. A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered, police said.
