"In the last two years, we had to take care of farmers and women besides focusing on steps to rebuild the state following the bifurcation. Youth will get top priority in our scheme of things in 2016-17 and I have allocated Rs 900 crore in the Budget for this," the Finance Minister said in the Assembly.
Thousands of government posts are lying vacant, but given the financial constraints faced by the state, vacancies were being filled by "need-based recruitment", Yanamala said.
The minister indicated the government might start disbursing the promised unemployment allowance to jobless youths this year.
"Our emphasis is on job creation. We are promoting industrial development in a big way so that lakhs of jobs are created, particularly in manufacturing sector. We are also focusing on skill development for youths to help them take up various vocations that are in demand," Yanamala added.
