The rebels had put up flex boards and distributed hand bills and other campaigning material at Venkatapur mandal and surrounding villages in the district ahead of the Maoists' weekly celebrations starting from tomorrow, Deputy Superintendent of Police K Dakshina Murthy said.
The police went and removed the posters and pamphlets, but a flex board in Jayanagar colony here was left out.
Police asked Kartheek, an auto driver, to remove the board and when he tried to remove the sticks, the bomb that was placed in a pit there went off, he said.
Combing operation was on to nab the culprits, police added.
