The girl, who belongs to Khician village in Hoshiarpur district, had come with her grandmother to meet relatives.
Her 28-year-old neighbour, Vicky, allegedly kidnapped her last night while she was playing on the street. He took the girl to an abandoned plot and tried to rape her, police said.
Meanwhile, her relatives started searching for her and found that Vicky, under the influence of liquor, was trying to rape the minor, who was seen weeping at that time.
They rescued the girl and handed the accused to the police.
The girl was handed over to her relatives after a medical examination at a civil hospital here today, police said.
