The accused kidnapped the girl yesterday when she was retuning from school and took her to an isolated jute field and tried to rape her, they said.
As the girl resisted the youth strangulated her and she later died, they added.
The youth fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
Agitated locals protested against the incident and blocked National Highway 34 for three hours demanding immediate police action.
The police managed to nab the culprit today and he was produced in the CJM court which remanded him to twelve days of police custody.
