India batsman Yuvraj Singh today officially launched his Centre of Excellence (YSCE) here, in association with the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
Surrounded by waters of Gobind Sagar reservoir, Luhnu cricket stadium offers a perfect setting for first class matches and training camps.
Speaking on the occasion, Yuvraj said, "I am thrilled to have finally launched Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence here at Bilaspur today. The interest and amount of talent that the state possesses is outstanding. HPCA is one of the most dynamic cricket associations and their growth map has been exceptional.
"The players will benefit a lot from congenial weather conditions and world class infrastructure created by the association. It is not an easy job to create such kind of a set up on hilly terrains and I salute the spirit and dedication of HPCA team led by their bold President, Anurag Thakur."
The Luhnu cricket stadium hosted its maiden first class match in 2001 Ranji Trophy. It comprises of a gymnasium and five bowling machines. The boundary distance is approximately 77 metres on all sides of the ground.
The centre at Bilaspur will be based on similar model as the other YSCE centres. It will be fully equipped with modern bowling machines, video analysis, novel drills for the players, cross-over camps and guest coach visits at regular intervals.
Commenting on this association, Thakur said, "It is a moment of pride for us that an international player of such a calibre has joined hands with us to promote and encourage the budding talent in the state. The young talent will learn some valuable lessons of the game and life in general from Yuvraj and I am sure this will benefit them in long run."
YSCE is currently operational across Delhi and NCR at four locations and one at Jammu. Amongst the four centres in Delhi, three are being run in partnership with Pathways World School and one with Jaypee Atlantis -- The Club, Jaypee Greens. The KC Sports Club, Jammu was recently launched as the 5th centre.
The centres currently train over 250 students in the state with ultra-modern training methods. They are also coming up with two more centres at Gwalior and Ambala.
