Reuters Market Eye - The BSE Sensex and Nifty were trading lower on Monday after hitting record highs for a third straight session in early trading.
The 30-share Sensex earlier rose as much as 0.37 percent to a life high of 27,969.82 while the broader Nifty gained as much as 0.34 percent to a record high of 8,350.60.
The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 0.09 percent while the Nifty fell 0.21 percent as of 11:21 a.m.
Technology stocks gained, tracking strong cues from the U.S. markets.
Infosys Ltd added 0.16 percent and Wipro Ltd gained 0.23 percent.
Weak sales numbers for October hurt automakers.
Mahindra and Mahindra lost 3.4 percent and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd fell 1.1 percent. Tata Motors was down 1.4 percent.
The Dow and S&P 500 ended at record highs on Friday while shares in Asia were consolidating the gains.
