Auto Sales Up 23.59 Per Cent In July

The booming Indian automobile industry sold 3,51,021 units in July 1996 against 2,84,028 units in July 1995, registering a rise of 23.59 per cent, figures released by the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) here yesterday show.
On the production front, the growth in the month has been more buoyant at 27.29 per cent. The industry manufactured 3,62,344 units in July this year against 2,84,685 units last year.
The figures for sale of cars stood at 35,139 this year as against 30,849 units in July 1995, registering a growth of 13.91 per cent.
On the other hand, production of cars rose by 16.32 per cent in July 1996 over the previous year. Total production during the period was 34,296 as against 29,483 in June 1995.
In the multi-utility vehicle segment, the industry achieved a growth of 21.41 per cent in sales compared to the previous year. Total sales stood at 6,175 units as against 5,086 in July 1995.
On the production front, the growth showed an improvement at 33.26 per cent with 6,943 vehicles being manufactured as against 5,210 in July 1995. In July this year, 1,19,399 scooters were sold as against 1,00,548 units in 1995 registered a growth of 18.75 per cent.
On the production front, the growth was 23.54 per cent when 1,27,146 scooters were manufactured compared to 1,02,916 scooters in July 1995.
The motorcycles segment saw a jump of 35.17 per cent in sales as against the previous year. Total sales amounted to 84,373 units as against 62,421 units in July 1995.
Production of motorcycles, however, grew at a higher rate of 37.20 per cent when the industry made 86,481 motorcycles compared to 63,032 units in July 1995. In the mopeds segment, sales rose by 25.35 per cent this year as compared to July 1995
. Total sales of mopeds was reported at 63,3228 units compared to 50,519 units in the previous year.
On the production side, July 1996 witnessed a boom when 63,677 units were made as compared to 49,177 units in July 1995, registering a growth of 29.49 per cent.
In the three-wheeler segment, sales increased by 41.16 per cent. Total sales of autorickshaws during June 1996 was 17,918 units as compared to 12,693 units in July 1995. Production of three-wheelers rose by 37.16 per cent in this year with 18,132 units being made as compared to 13,220 units in July 1995.
