The technology is based on AutoCAD software, one of the world's most widely used design software and it helps developers build vertical applications for industries such as telecommunications, utilities, oil and gas and local governments as well as natural resource and environmental engineering.

AutoCAD Map is the first in a family of Autodesk mapping and GIS products. It focuses on five key areas; digital map creation; analysis; maintenance of accurate, up-to-date maps; data exchange and publishing.

This will be followed by a range of solutions that help users create, analyse, manage and present geographic data, said Satish Bhave, Autodesk's group manager, data management /GIS.

Hindustan Office Products, promoted by India's largest venture capital company, Technology Development and Investment Corporation of India Ltd (TDICI), is Autodesk's distributor for the entire Saarc region and Myanmar since the middle of 1993. The company has projected a turnover of Rs 35 crore in the current fiscal.

Autodesk is a leading supplier of PC and Unix-based software and multimedia tools. The company's products and data management tools are used in many industries for architectural design, mechanical design, mapping, film and video production and Web content development.
