Punjab varieties ruled mixed while Gujarat cotton was quiet on local markets on Tuesday, dealers said.
In the Punjab segment, saw-ginned cotton rose amid thin supplies while Bengal-deshi was quiet amid rising new crop arrivals.
"Traders reported daily average new crop inflow of 1,400/1,500 bales (170 kg each) in the Punjab region. This contains the major portion of Bengal-deshi cotton while the inflow of saw-ginned cotton remained slow," a broker said.
In spot deals, Punjab saw-ginned (October delivery) rose by Rs 20 at Rs 1,810/1,880 per maund while November delivery rose by Rs 20 at Rs 1,760/1,800 per maund. Bengal-deshi was quiet at Rs 1,180/1,200 per maund for October delivery and at Rs 1,120/1,150 for November delivery.
Gujarat cotton was steady in limited activity. Long-staple Gujarat Sankar-4 was quoted at Rs 21,500 per candy for ready delivery while October delivery was quoted at Rs 21,000 and November delivery at Rs 20,500 per candy.
