Dcm Datasystems Eyes Govt Sector To Power Growth

DCM DataSystems, the information technology arm of the Vinay Bharat Ram-controlled DCM Ltd, is eyeing the government sector to power its business growth in the wake of sluggish IT spending from the corporate sector. The company will concentrate its efforts on providing networking services and system integration expertise to customers in the public sector, according to Hemant Bharat Ram, chief executive, DCM DataSystems.

We have decided to focus on the financial sector, more specifically on banks and insurance companies in addition to telecommunications as the high growth areas in the next few years, he added.

In addition the company will also work towards meeting the needs of the defence sector, where the budget for information technolgy spendings alone is estimated to increase up to Rs 10 crore. This year we will refocus our business by putting in place a service and sales strategy, Ram said.A wholly owned subsidiary of DCM, the company is targeting a revenue of Rs 110 crore in the next year. DCM Data Systems successfully computerised all the retail branches of the Life Insurance Corporation, the countrys largest life insurance company, in Delhi.

In the banking sector its single largest customer has been the State Bank of India and its associate banks. SBI alone bought nearly 35,000 personal computers from the company.

Its strength lies in providing technical support for networking and systems integration in addition to distribution as well as vendor support.
