Haryana Orders Closure Of 31 Units On Pollution Charges

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board has ordered the closure of 31 industrial units in the state for non-compliance with the Hazardous Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, according to state government press release.

An official spokesman of the Haryana Environment Department said the board is also monitoring the pollution level in the two major rivers - Yamuna and Ghaggar.

The board has identified 13 monitoring stations along the Western Yamuna Canal and the Ghaggar river. The board is also regularly monitoring the quality of water in the two rivers.

The board is also regularly directing the industrial units to take remedial measures by installing the effluent treatment plants in order to treat their trade effluent before leaving the premises of their units.

The board has also set up two monitoring stations at Faridabad and Yamunanagar for monitoring ambient air quality.

The board is also pursuading the industrial units in the state for installing effluent treatment plants and following the air pollution control measures.

The state government has also sent up two special environment courts at Faridabad and Hissar, the two major industrial town in the state to exclusively deal with the cases dealing with environment.

The official spokesman said the department of environment is making all out efforts to implement various environmental laws with a view to ensure sustainable development in the state. The department has also invested Rs 79 lakhs for setting up a common effluent treatment plant for a cluster of small scale industries in the industrial estate at Kundli in district Sonepat. The centre contributed 25 per cent of the total cost of the project, 25 per cent of the cost was contributed by the state government and the remaining 50 per cent was contributed by the industrial units.

The state government has planned to set up three more common effluent treatment plants in different industrial estates in the state.

The state department of environment has also taken up a massive mass education programme to make the people conscious and aware about the environmental issues.
