Lack of consistency has been Kolkata Knight Riders' biggest drawback in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League, feels skipper Gautam Gambhir.

"If you play inconsistent cricket, the results will be before you. So this I think is the biggest drawback," Gambhir told reporters on the eve of his team's match against Pune Warriors here.

The defending champions are placed seventh in the points table with six wins and eight defeats, their slim hopes of securing a play-offs berth hanging by the thread.

Gambhir said it was important for a team to click in all departments.

"The important point is that if you don't play good cricket, you will be where you are. If you don't play well in all the three departments (batting, bowling and fielding), you won't win matches. So it is necessary for all the three departments to complement each other," he said.

Gambhir said there was no point blaming the wicket for a loss.

"The wicket (here) is good. If you don't play good cricket what can the wicket do. We don't see how the other team has batted and what mistakes they had committed.

"It is a decent wicket and it is still a 150 wicket, it was the same even when we played the last one (on Sunday against Royal Challengers Bangalore)."

"If you don't bat well you can't bat well on any wicket and if you can play well then you can play well on every wicket. It is a normal wicket like any other one."

In IPL's first match here on Sunday, KKR defeated Bangalore riding on Jacques Kallis and Sunil Narine's superlative efforts.
