India and China have signed an agreement to enhance cooperation and exchange of programmes between the national television networks of both countries, official sources have said.
The agreement, signed here on Monday by Doordarshan and China Central Television (CCTV), envisages strengthening the already existing friendly and cooperative relations between the two state-run networks, the sources said. The pact, signed by information and broadcasting secretary N P Nawani and Yang We vice-minister of Chinas ministry of radio, film and television and president of CCTV, provides for exchange of television programmes in the fields of news, economic development, culture, education, children, science, technology, entertainment and sports.
In the case of programmes supplied on a non-commercial basis, any existing commercial agreements between the two networks and their respective international agents or distributors will be taken into account, the sources said.
Doordarshan and CCTV have agreed that the two parties shall support the recognition of integrity of the exchanged programmes, but any editing, shortening or dubbing in either English or Chinese shall not alter or distort the meaning of the original programmes.
The memorandum also includes cooperation and assistance in terms of information, provision of technical assistance and the licensing of technology, subject to appropriate agreement to be negotiated, organisation and technical assistance to visiting reporters, production teams and administrative staff between the two countries.
