Italian ambassador to India Gaetano Zucconi announced this at a seminar organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry. We will open an office in Bangalore and Chennai in the near future and both these offices will be manned by Indians, said Zucconi.
The trade offices will help promote exports from Italy to India and to organise trade missions to visit fairs held in Italy, he added.
In May, Italy will also host a major Indian festival to coincide with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the countrys independence, he observed. Last year, the trade between the two countries was $ 2.6 billion and was expected to reach $3 billion. This was not an impressive figure but there was a lot of scope for better future trade, he said.
The sectors in which Italy has a substantial share of trade in India were food processing industry, soaps and toiletries, ceramics and leather among others.
and leather goods, mining and quarrying, Zucconi observed.
