The Supreme Court yesterday ordered the closure of Mahabir Coke Industry in Guwahati for polluting the city and issued show-cause notices to three experts who reported that the unit conformed to the air purity standards. The order stated that the three `experts' who gave the inspection report to it seemed to have "abdicated their duties" by clearing the industry. The bench consisting of justice K T Thomas and Justice D P Mohapatra passed the orders on an appeal by the pollution control board of Assam, against the high court order. The three experts, R C Kataria, C Bhaduri and M C Choudhury, were asked to reply to the show-cause notice within a month.
