Maruti ropes in psychologists to treat injured employees

Sessions would kick off this week, the compnay said.

Maruti Suzuki India today said it is roping in psychologists and psychiatrists for counselling its employees, who were injured in the July 18 violence at the Manesar plant.

The company also said with the culprits still at large, it continued to be concerned about the safety and security of its people and hence was not in a position to take a decision on resuming operations at the Manesar plant.

"Taking an important step initiative towards employee rehabilitation, Maruti Suzuki is roping in India's leading psychologists and psychiatrists for counselling its injured employees," the company said in a statement.

It, however, did not disclose who the psychologists and psychiatrists were.

"The counselling sessions kicks off this week," it added.

MSI said the employees team set up last week was assessing individual needs with the help of 'specialists on board' to conduct individual or group slash therapy sessions for the injured.

On July 26 the company had said a 25-member team, drawn from its various departments, including HR, Safety and Welfare, Finance and Engineering, was formed to take care of employees who were injured in violence at Manesar plant that killed one senior executive.

Ruling out a quick resumption of production at the plant where it has announced an indefinite lockout, the company said: "It has been thirteen days post acts of violence and arson at the Manesar plant, the culprits continue to be at large.

"The company continues to be concerned about the safety and security of its people, hence (is) not in a position to take a decision on resuming operations at the Manesar plant."

MSI further said it is also reaching out to its customers who have booked cars and explaining them the situation.

"The sale executives at the dealerships are also being trained to convey the situation to new customers," it said.
