Internet player Microland yesterday announced the launch of media2india.net, India's first Internet media entity.

media2india.net will be in the business of providing integrated marketing and media solutions and services, and essential information for the entire Internet spectrum.

Pradeep Kar, chairman, Microland Group, said the new company would be in the business of providing integrated marketing and media solutions and services, and essential information for the entire Internet spectrum.

media2india.net will offer a range of offerings which will include online advertising solutions, Internet research, and Internet events which will feature India Internet world, the largest Internet forum in Asia.

Quoting from the Goldman Sachs report he said that India was the largest and fastest growing Internet market and the total number of Internet users was expected to go up to about 70 million by 2003, up from the present 1.5 million.

Additionally, e-commerce revenues in India is slated to go up from $110 million in 1999 to about $940 million by 2003 while revenues from the total online ad business in India will go up from about $2.5 million to about $150 million by 2003.

According to Kar, the launch of media2india.net was in line with Microland's overall strategy to focus on the growing opportunities provided by Internet and provide the clients the most compelling media solutions in the industry.

The new company has already tied-up with leading portals across the world like Hotmail, and msn.com for site-specific buys and at the same time is allying itself with leading sites, in several categories, to put together a network of sites where buyers can spread their buys over several sites.

media2india.net will also be helping ad buyers and advertisement agencies develop their online media plans. According to Suresh Raman, Chief-media2india.net, the company was allying with leading web publishers and would also have a media planning team that will leverage existing online media research as well as the research done by the in-house team of media2india.net.

media2india.net's advertisement serving technology is licensed from DoubleClick whose software DART offers sophisticated targeting and tracking facilities and extensive online reporting for advertisers and administrators.
