Union minister of state for power S Venugopalachari yesterday expressed concern over the poor performance of private power producers and said that this has led to a shortfall at the end of the eighth plan.

In his speech, read out in absentia, at the inaugural session of the two-day meeting of the Central Electricity Board in New Delhi, the minister said that, against a target of 30,538 mw, the achievement would only be of the order of 17,650 mw.
