The sharp fall was attributed to sustained bear pressure and lack of support from foreign institutional investors.

The market sentiment remained largely subdued under the shadow of continuing political uncertainty following the rejection of anticipatory bail of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao in the St Kitts case. The national index also dropped by 18.18 points to 1459.42.
